City approves 2% pay adjustment for eligible employees

Eligible Excelsior Springs city employees will receive a 2% pay adjustment after a difficult funding year left the city’s workforce without merit raises.

The Excelsior Springs City Council recently approved the adjustment unanimously for eligible full- and part-time employees for the final four pay periods of fiscal year 2026. Eligible employees will begin receiving the increase in August.

City Manager Melinda Mehaffy emphasized the role employees play in providing city services as she presented the proposed adjustment to the council.

“I don’t think there’s any question that the most important asset this city has is the staff members who come to work every day with a goal of just doing their job as well as they can and accomplishing what we need to accomplish,” said Mehaffy.

Earlier this year, employees in Grade A and B classifications received a separate wage adjustment when the minimum hourly rate increased from $13.75 to $15 to meet Missouri’s minimum wage requirements. Those employees …
