On April 5, the City Council approved a resolution to hire Kansas City-based Superior Bowen Asphalt Co. LLC to do overlay work. Superior Bowen has worked on projects such as the Kansas Speedway racetrack in Wyandotte County, Kansas, and on Kansas City’s downtown loop. Public Works Director Chad Birdsong told city leaders overlay work is planned for Jesse James Road between Missouri Highway 10 and U.S. Highway 69, “excluding the Meadowlark intersection, which … is another project.” Intersection work bidding is expected to begin shortly, Birdsong said. In addition, overlay work is planned to begin at Miller Avenue at Jesse James. The work will cover Dunbar Street/North Dunbar from Jesse James until Dunbar connects with Concourse Avenue at Missouri 10, Birdsong stated. The overall project is a combination of work planned for this year and 2020 that could not be done because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Birdsong stated.
