City clerk shares experience working for ES
City Clerk Shannon Stroud believes getting involved and working within the community can be a fulfilling opportunity.
Stroud began her career journey when she attended Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, studying leisure management. She explained that she also considered the possibility of becoming a firefighter when she decided it just wasn’t for her.
“I attended school one year and took a break,” she said. “I could not make up my mind of what field I wanted to continue in.”
She then jumped into the working field, obtaining various certifications. Once Stroud decided driving to Kansas City each day wasn’t practical. She and her husband were gone 12 hours a day while her children were in school, she said she was missing out on their lives.
Her unfulfilling schedule led Stroud to apply for a local position as a receptionist within the Community Development Department in 2002.
