City moves to strengthen traffic enforcement

Excelsior Springs police will continue targeted enforcement against hazardous driving and impaired motorists under two Missouri Department of Transportation traffic safety grants for fiscal year 2027.

City council members approved an ordinance authorizing participation in the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety and Traffic Division enforcement grant programs, including the Hazardous Moving Violations and Driving Under the Influence initiatives. The programs reimburse 100% of eligible enforcement activity costs and require formal city authorization to apply and, if awarded, enter into grant agreements.

Excelsior Springs Police Department Captain Robert Warner recently presented the ordinance, explaining the department must receive city authorization to apply for and participate in statefunded programs should they be awarded.
