City prepares for full-size, outdoor pool

■ OUTDOOR CLIMBING WALL ■ OUTDOOR DIVING BOARD ■ FIT FOR SCHOOL TEAMS EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – An outdoor pool with a removable roof and other amenities is coming between the Excelsior Springs Community Center and the nearby soccer fields. The construction cost is about $6 million, Parks and Recreation/Community Center Director Nate Williams said. “The total numbers aren’t in,” he said. Refinancing the original community center to take advantage of low interest rates funds the plan, Williams said. Having a regulation-size pool – the one inside the community center is smaller – is significant, he said. “Having an outdoor pool with lap lanes … (allows for) a swim team,” Williams said, and he added the “regulation”-size pool is needed for sanctioned competition. “(The pool would) give us the benefits of having a club youth swim team, as well as a future school swim team.” The school district is talking with the Missouri State High School Activities Association about starting a swim…
