City trims tax rate following valuation increase
Excelsior Springs property owners will see a slightly lower city tax rate for 2025 after reassessment pushed valuations above the cost-ofliving increase, triggering a mandatory rollback under state law.The City Council recently approved an ordinance during a special meeting, establishing a total levy of $1.0051 per $100 of assessed valuation. That compares to last year’s $1.0567 rate.The assessed valuation for 2025 is $239,565,814, up from $214,247,670 in 2024, an increase of about 11%. The valuation includes $184,755,550 in real estate, $46,217,634 in personal property, $7,306,309 in state-assessed railroad and utility real estate and $1,286,321 in state-assessed railroad and utility personal property.The levy will generate $2,407,876 in total revenue for the general, parks, recreation, and hospital funds, compared with $2,263,955 last year.
