City waives debt-based disconnects

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The City Council acted to assist residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. First, the council gave financial support to the Good Samaritan Center to help families pay water and sewer bills. Second, the council temporarily waived service disconnections due to delinquent bills. The council acted on both measures Monday during an online session via Zoom, a video conferencing platform. “These are unsettling times, and as I heard last week, a record 2.2 million Americans filed for unemployment. Not only will our customers be concerned about paying their bills, we hope they understand we are one of many service providers that will also struggle if they can’t pay us. We are all in this together, and together, we need a wing and a prayer to get back to normal,” City Manager Molly McGovern said.
