Clay County seeks game donations for detention center

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help collecting card games and jigsaw puzzles for the local Detention Center throughout January. “The community responded so overwhelmingly to the first-ever paperback book and puzzle drive we did for the jail in January 2022 that when new needs arose, we decided to ask them for help again,” said Clay County Sheriff Will Akin. It was noted in a recent press release that there is a plethora of books available to inmates that were donated in 2022. However, puzzle pieces from other donated items have been lost, creating a higher demand for more. Inmates have also been requesting other items, such as cards and games, to keep them occupied. According to the release, inmates have games and things to do to keep the inmates and Detention Center staff calmer and safer throughout the day.
