Code enforcement ramps up, focus on community partnerships
MIRANDA JAMISONWith the arrival of warmer weather, Excelsior Springs has entered the busiest season of the year for property maintenance and the city is taking a proactive, community-focused approach to enforcement.“Enforcement began May 5,” said Code Compliance Officer Trish Guarino.“Everything inside city limits is a priority.”Guarino is responsible for covering the city’s 10-square-mile area, managing new violations while actively handling nearly 200 open cases already in progress. The size of her jurisdiction, along with required documentation and communication, means it will take one to two weeks to complete a full inspection sweep.Guarino approaches code enforcement with a mindset rooted in fairness and accountability. While tall grass and overgrown vegetation are common issues this time of year, her job goes far beyond seasonal concerns.“It’s not just growing season,” stated Guarino. ?...
