Community center assists elderly with COVID-19 vaccine signups
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Excelsior Springs Community Center is reaching out to help elderly residents sign up on the Clay County Public Health Center website for COVID-19 vaccinations.
Center Executive Director Jesse Hall told city leaders during a late-January City Council work session on Zoom that the center had contacted and provided over-the-phone assistance to “those that are on hold that are 70 and over.” In addition, the center had provided in-person assistance, using social distancing, Hall said.
“The Clay County Health (Center) website is very user-friendly, but it’s intimidating for a certain population,” he said.
By providing the service, the center also offers elderly members “a goodwill gesture to get them back to the center as soon as we get that vaccine,” Hall said.
Hall requested anyone who knows of someone needing assistance to call the center at 816-656-2500.
“We are happy to help,” he said.
