Council approves ESPD’s golf cart request

The Excelsior Springs Police Department is adding a vehicle to its fleet: a golf cart. On July 18 at the Hall of Waters, the City Council approved Chief Greg Dull’s request to buy a 2017 E-Z-Go cart for $11,538. The four-seat, electric-powered vehicle has been overhauled, Dull told city leaders. “The only thing that’s used is the frame,” he said. “New body. New top. New tires, wheels, battery, lights. Everything.” RMI Golf Carts in Olathe, Kansas, will supply the vehicle, city records state. Finding an available cart proved challenging, Dull acknowledged, saying the department “contacted numerous dealers in the area.” “We learned that the golf car industry is experiencing a great deal of supply-and-demand issues,” Dull said. Supply was so scarce, in fact, that the used E-Z-Go was the only vehicle in stock when Lt. Jeremiah Renne presented city leaders with three bids in a memo.
