Construction of 61 senior living townhomes could soon begin in Excelsior Springs as the first phase of Woodland Meadows moves forward.

Excelsior Springs City Council members recently approved the final plat for the first phase of Woodland Meadows, a planned development at 2200 Wornall Road. The first phase includes 61 senior living townhomes, while a future second phase calls for 37 single-family homes.

The property is currently vacant and undeveloped. City staff noted the first phase is intended to help address a need for senior housing identified in the city’s Comprehensive Plan, which points to Excelsior Springs’ aging population and a growing demand for senior housing.

City Planner Joshua Garrett explained the first phase will divide the property into four parcels and one tract for stormwater detention. With the final plat approved, he said the project can advance to permitting and development.
