Council OKs CARES funding for Good Samaritan Center
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Good Samaritan Center has another $10,694.99 to assist families who need help making payments on their rent, mortgages or utilities.
The money comes from Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security funding allocated by the city. The City Council approved the center’s CARES funding request during its Dec. 21 meeting.
As Economic Development Director Melinda Mehaffy explained to city leaders in a memo and again shortly before the vote, the funding is in addition to $6,728 in CARES money the center has received elsewhere. Mehaffy lobbied on the center’s behalf, explaining the center had paid $17,000-plus assisting families with their bills over the past nine months.
