Crash kills Lawson student, injuring another

The Lawson Community is mourning the death of a Lawson High School Student after a tragic vehicle wreck last week. Lawson Fire Department, Ray County Sheriff’s Department, Wood Heights Fire Department, Ray County Ambulance, Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) and Life-Flight responded to the area of Atkins Road and Route C on a report of a single-vehicle accident, around 8:58 p.m. Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) Trooper I.L. Kimball and MSHP Trooper J.D. Conrad reported the accident involved a 2002 Ford Truck driven by a 17-year-old juvenile with a 15-year-old juvenile as the passenger. The driver crested a hill and lost control, beginning to skid. The vehicle then traveled off the left side of the roadway, overturning and striking a tree, the report states. Ray County medical Examiner Bartley Willim pronounced the driver deceased at 9 p.m. and the passenger was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital via Life-Flight.
