Missouri Humanities, a nonprofit organization wanting to inform society of educational measures, will be presenting a free Cultural Heritage Workshop.

With hopes of enhancing lives and strengthening communities by connecting with individuals, the organization wants to enhance lives and strengthen communities like Excelsior Springs.

According to Missouri Humanities, the workshop provides the tools and resources necessary for communities to reevaluate their cultural heritage to begin or revive programming, tourism and economic development opportunities in the area the workshop is held.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Hall of Waters. Check-in begins at 8:45 a.m.

The workshop will involve group conversations, applied understanding activities and a presentation from Dr. Anthony Merhoff on “Place and Placemaking.” Merhoff’s presentation will exhibit the key concepts and topics involved with cultural heritage tourism. Attendees will learn ways to apply these key concepts to the Excelsior Springs community. The focus of the workshop will be a study of humanities with the use of design arts to help perfect working understanding of cultural heritage tourism. Meaningful ways to accomplish those objectives will also be shared.

During the afternoon, participants will take a walking tour in order to experience Excelsior Springs’ cultural sites. Registration is mandatory for this free event.
