Clay County deputies safely took an armed man into custody on Jan. 20 who was wanted for a home invasion in Buckner. Gladstone Police requested assistance when they located a stolen car being driven by 27-yearold Phillip T. Martin at 3:24 p.m. Previously, on Jan. 19, Buckner Police Department had issued a public alert trying to find Martin, who was to be considered armed and dangerous after a home invasion. Martin fled from Gladstone Police and deputies while going in the wrong direction on Interstate 435 near N.E. 108th Street. Martin then drove off I-435 into a field near Cookingham Drive, got out of the car, and fled on foot. Two deputies pursued Martin on foot and identified a gun in his hand. The deputies continued to pursue Martin while requesting him to drop the gun. Martin refused while continuing to flee and asked the deputies to shoot him.
