Eden Village panel answers community questions

A discussion was held recently between Excelsior Springs citizens and representatives of Eden Village , a nonprofit organization aiming to end homelessness within the community. Various factors relating to the local homeless population and how Eden Village can meet that need were explained by the group’s panel, which included Nate Schlueter, chief visionary officer; Alfredo Palacol, founding executive director; Kelly Anderson, board president and Jenifer Chapel, caseworker. According to Chapel, the history of the homeless population in Excelsior Springs goes back to 2013 when the Monterey Hotel was demolished. “We had an evident homeless population,” Chapel said. With the influx of homeless in the area, the Missouri Housing Development Commission offered the Good Samaritan Center $10,000 to host a one-day event.
