ES First feeds public physically, spiritually
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – With friendly chatter and smiles, volunteers united at ES First, 1800 U.S. Highway 69.
They took bulk containers of food from the Harvesters Community Food Network truck and divided the contents for distribution to community members.
Volunteers included Wanda Bahs, who had a clear reason for helping.
“I like people, I like helping the church,” she said.
ES First provides food every fourth Saturday to those who ask, a service the church has delivered to Excelsior Springs for the past eight years, rain or shine, Pastor Brandon Block said. During last week’s distribution, volunteers performed their service on a rare, warm and sunny February day.
“This is to help our community,” Block said.
Most of the food comes from Harvesters, the Kansas City-based Community Food Network. Block said donations from businesses and individuals add to what the public receives.
In addition to feeding people physically, Block said lonely souls who ask are fed with prayer.
