ES Hospital still fighting for pandemic tax credit

The Excelsior Springs Hospital’s Board of Trustees is still fighting for an estimated $2.5 million from the Employee Retention Tax Credit in limbo since they first applied in September 2022. Trustees met Monday to discuss where their embattled claim currently stands, and possible next steps. The ERC, created under the 2020 CARES Act, is supposed to help a business or company that experienced a reduced income or had to endure a partial shutdown due to COVID-19 in 2020 or 2021. The tax credit was created for employers to continue paying their employees under those strained circumstances in order to stay in business and provide services. According to IRS.gov, those eligible for the ERC must have been ordered to shut down by a government order due to the pandemic during the year 2020 or within the first three quarters of 2021, experienced the required decline in gross receipts during the eligibility periods during 2020 or the first three calendar quarters of 2021 or qualified as a…
