ES Housing Authority receives grant funds

The Excelsior Springs Housing Authority (ESHA) was awarded $250,000 through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Emergency Safety and Security Grant (ESSG). ESSG, under the Consolidated Appropriations Act enacted December 29, 2022, has set aside $10 million in funding for emergency capital needs for safety and security measures. The funds outlined in the grant address crime and drug-related activity in public housing. Funds awarded to the Excelsior Springs Housing Authority will purchase surveillance cameras, new doors, and access control systems at all Housing Authority locations. “I couldn’t believe it,” said Carrie Hiltner, executive director. “I was shaking and excited when I received the news.” She explained she has never received a grant like the ESSG before and is excited to update the older style security throughout the Excelsior Springs Housing Authority buildings. “Any kind of development that improves the health and safety of residents is…
