ES makes changes after municipal court review

After a Municipal Court review by the Office of State Courts Administrator (OSCA), the Excelsior Springs City Council has approved suggested changes to certain ordinances. The city was notified in January of the upcoming review. During a recent Excelsior Springs City Council meeting, City Manager Molly McGovern presented the recommended changes from OSCA after consulting with the city’s attorney. “It is common for these audits to happen every 10 years or so,” stated Excelsior Springs City Manager Molly McGovern. “At the completion of the review, many of the areas that were found to need improvement were with the ordinances and cleaning up the language.” The recommended verbiage and changes for certain codes include: City Code Section 125.300 regarding failure to appear in court will now read, “A person who willfully violates his/ her promise to appear in Municipal Court, given at the time of the service of a summons or warrant notifying him/her of his/ her court appearance date or…
