ES School Board addresses concerned parents
The Excelsior Springs School Board is addressing concerned parents regarding school safety, bullying protocols, and other school-related business handling.
Jake Smith, an area resident, addressed the board at its last meeting, stating concerns regarding an event when a student brought unloaded firearms to school. He said he was seeking clarification and information about a problem that seemed to just disappear.
“From my understanding, the information I have been told was that the student received a one-year suspension or expulsion,” Smith told school board members. “I don’t see how that can be rationalized. Decisions were made, and I shouldn’t have to hope everything is fine after this incident; I shouldn’t have to send my daughter to school worrying about it.”
Smith wanted to know if the student’s family is being looked at and if a psychological evaluation of the student who brought the unloaded firearms to school is being conducted. “It isn’t a witch hunt on the student,” Smith…
