ES Trust Authority discuss future projects

The Excelsior Springs Capital Improvements and Transportation Trust Authority recently discussed city finances, as well as current and upcoming projects. Molly McGovern, city manager, presented the authority members with financial documents explaining she compared January through July of 2023 to last year’s financial information. “There has been a 7% increase in sales taxes,” said McGovern. Projecting future growth, she said due to inflation rates this year, the sales tax increase will not spill over into next year’s taxes. The city started the month of July with $2.7 million and earned $123,075.97 in city sales and use tax, as well as $2,731.90 in interest income. Based on the current rates, McGovern predicts, “Excelsior Springs will end the year with $2 million if all the fund transfers and projects scheduled to be complete occur this year.” Ongoing projects still occurring within the city with the use of those funds have been designated for blighted properties, maintenance…
