ESACC instructor enters temporary retirement

After 22 years of service, Excelsior Springs Area Career Center (ESACC) is saying goodbye to long-time instructor John Potter as he retires from his current position. “I have been blessed to have many opportunities and to be involved with many things in the fire service, which I can use to help students learn,” he said. Since 2001, Potter has been teaching for the ESACC. His main focus was on nightly adult education, teaching Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), as well as firefighter I and II classes for those wanting to obtain certification and become a member of the fire department. In 2010, Potter also began educating high school students who aspire to be a firefighter or EMT. “My teaching methods are honest and not sugar-coated. Students need to know what to expect,” said Potter, noting his goal is to provide the proper training so that his students can be as prepared as possible for incidents they face.
