ESFD training facility approved
The Excelsior Springs City Council agreed to allow the construction of a training facility for the local fire department.
Fire Chief Joe Maddick presented the consideration for the new training facility and explained that during a previous Capital Improvements Trans Trust Authority meeting, the facility was approved for a $200,000 spending limit.
“I have been with the fire department since 1990,” Maddick said. “We have never had a place to do any training; the most important training is fire training consisting of a low-frequency, high-risk venture.”
He explained that the local fire department could never train department staff and that the new facility would ensure confidence in those employed locally and allow residents to remain safe.
The new training facility would allow current and recent firefighters to train in active rescue situations such as vehicular and propane tank fires, trench rescue operations, confined space rescues and vehicle extrication situations.
