Farabee creates joy for city

One local man’s goal to make people smile is happening one drawing at a time as he creates artwork along the sidewalks of downtown Excelsior Springs. Robbie Farabee was raised in the neighboring community of Wood Heights. A longtime Excelsior Springs resident, the 27-year-old artist’s journey began in middle school when he showed interest in sketching. Later in high school, he began teaching himself how to draw after receiving a sketchbook from some friends. Farabee would check out books at the high school and the local midcontinent libraries to help teach him along his journey. “The library has great books that can help teach someone how to draw different things,” he said. His favorite things to sketch include fan art, cartoon characters past to present, along with designing his own characters. Farabee eventually moved to the Colony Plaza apartment complex in Excelsior Springs and would walk around downtown exploring what the city had to offer while achieving his daily goal of…
