Filing for city council, school board positions opens Dec. 12

December 1, 2017 – Two seats each on the Excelsior Springs City Council and the Excelsior Springs Board of Education will be available for an April election, and filing for those seats opens Dec. 12.

The city council seats of Brad Eales and Sonya Morgan and the school board seats of Terry Krier and Troy Snelling will be available for candidates interested in the positions.

The first day to file for a place on the ballot will be Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017 at 8 a.m.  Filing will close at 5 p.m. on Jan. 16, 2018, the eleventh Tuesday prior to the election.

The final day for certification of the ballot is Jan. 23, 2018.

Candidates for the school board must file paperwork at the Excelsior Springs School District’s central office, 300 W. Broadway Ave. All school board candidates must be residents of the school district (simply owning property within the school district is not sufficient), and must be current on state income taxes, personal property taxes, municipal taxes and real property taxes on their residence.

Candidates for the city council must file paperwork at the Hall of Waters, 201 E. Broadway Ave. All city council candidates are required to be at least 21 years of age prior to Election Day, they must be a resident of the city of Excelsior Springs for at least one year prior to the election, and they must owe no delinquent taxes.

The general municipal election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 3, 2018.
