RICHMOND – Former Richmond School District Superintendent Mike Aytes’ employment discrimination suit includes allegations of cheating and sexual harassment involving head varsity football and baseball coach Nick Persell. Neither the district nor Persell agreed to comment on the allegations. Aytes’ suit seeks actual and punitive damage awards from his former employer, the Richmond Board of Education. He filed the suit in Ray County Circuit Court. The board placed Aytes on administrative leave Nov. 15, 2019. At the time, Aytes said he felt blindsided. The board fired him almost six months later, March 6, 2020. At the time the district placed him on leave, Aytes had about 18 months left on his contract. The contract called for the board to pay him more than $130,000 annually. The board hired an interim superintendent, James Finley, to finish out the 2019-2020 school year and then signed a contract with Superintendent Greg Darling, whose tenure began at the start of the 2020-2021…
