Free academic help available to veterans

WARRENSBURG – Veterans who are wanting to transition to civilian life can find help. They can prepare for a new career at any school through Veterans Upward Bound, or VUB, at the University of Central Missouri. VUB is a free program to help veterans obtain educational assistance to prepare for a new career path. VUB is a federally funded program made possible by a U.S. Department of Education grant. VUB is designed to help veterans refresh their academic skills and give them the confidence they need to obtain a college degree or pursue other post-secondary education opportunities needed to transition into civilian jobs. This is accomplished through an individualistic approach with each veteran, VUB Director Tonya Kuranda, an Air Force veteran, said. “When a veteran walks in our office and becomes a participant in the program, we make it a priority to build a relationship of trust and authenticity,” she said. “Each veteran has a unique story and plan for their future, however, all of…
