Free showing of George Foreman movie held in KC
Jobs Corps is the largest residential career training program nationwide, operating for over 50 years. Jobs Corps has helped eligible people aged 16 through 24 complete their high school education, train for future careers, and seek employment since 1964.
Boxing legend George Foreman grew up less fortunate in Houston’s 5th Ward. At 16 years old, he applied at Job Corps after seeing an ad on television in the 1960s. He later was assigned to Fort Vannoy, near Grants Pass, Ore.
Foreman spent six months in the Job Corps program, being mentored by the recreation director and a cook. Those memories and relationships helped him to turn his life around and achieve greatness.
A two-time heavy weight champion of the world and Olympic gold medalist, he attributes his success to the Job Corps program.
