Grand jury rules no charges against ES teacher

A Clay County grand jury recently decided no charges will be filed against an Excelsior Springs teacher accused of abuse. The determination follows investigations by the Excelsior Springs School District and the Children’s Division of the Missouri Department of Social Services, which also showed no wrongdoing by the teacher. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office submitted its findings to the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office, which then presented them to a grand jury. After reviewing the evidence, the grand jury issued a no true bill, meaning the grand jury hadn’t found probable cause to support a criminal charge, the sheriff’s office stated in a press release. Complaints made in April to the Excelsior Springs Police Department (ESPD) by the parents of two students against a teacher at Cornerstone Elementary School prompted the sheriff’s investigation.
