High school band sweeps competition at Warsaw Marching Band Festival

The Excelsior Springs Tiger Marching Band swept the competition at the Warsaw Marching Band Festival. They took home Festival Grand Champion out of nine competing bands. The indoor color guard took first place, indoor drumline took first place, and in the field competition, they took first place. This was Warsaw’s first band competition. “That was nice for our first competition,” said Excelsior Springs High School Band Director Garrett Jones. The band is composed of 65 members, including color guard. The theme of the show this season is called “Blue Print,” with “retro-futuristic” imagery to it, according to Jones. “Think of Disney’s ‘Tomorrow Land’ kind of vibes. So, what the people of the ’50s and ’60s thought the world of today and the future was going to look like,” he said. The students received the music in May and had a few music rehearsals in June before the drumline camp in July and the band camp in August.
