When you arrive in Excelsior Springs, any one can confer it is full of life. The community is laid out with a historic downtown region and modern development. What about before all of the modern fast food joints, and grocery stores? In 1883 there wasn’t modern development. Instead, there were settlers. Coming from Kentucky, moving to the west. During this time the community we love was being built board by board. Michael and Elizabeth Welton sought west to infer about the opportunities the area had to offer. Thanks to The Land Act of 1820 that went into effect on April 24, 1820. The Land Act made it possible for public land to be purchased. The land was available is considered what we now know as the frontier. (Center, n.d.) It was a brave new opportunity for many. For this community it was a great birth of Excelsior Springs.
