Hospital ‘ready’ when vaccine arrives

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Excelsior Springs Hospital is ready to administer COVID-19 vaccinations, but when the vaccine will arrive and what role the hospital will play are unknown, CEO Kristen DeHart told city leaders via Zoom. DeHart said Cerner Corp. would partner with the Liberty and North Kansas City hospitals, “and various cities that are affiliated,” to provide by-appointment vaccinations at Cerner’s headquarters in North Kansas City. Cerner expects to get 4,500-dose shipments every two weeks, she said. “They will be able to do 4,500 in a day,” DeHart said. She said she wants to know “what do we do in the smaller communities, especially in Clay County, where our population might not be either interested or able” to go there. “Some of the initial discussions are that we’ll have pop-ups and be able to use some of those vaccinations here at the clinic that we have ready to go,” she said.
