Hospital weighs survey feedback on health issues

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Excelsior Springs Hospital CEO Kristen DeHart and her staff received community feedback from 2020 that they plan to use to help improve hospital services. During the City Council’s general meeting May 17, DeHart shared her report for fiscal year 2020, including survey data. Excelsior Springs and Lawson residents provided most of the responses, with some from Liberty, she said. “When you can’t see patients and your building closes down to outside visitors, you say, ‘What can we do?’ And you do surveys,” DeHart said. One survey question asked respondents their reasons for visiting the hospital. Roughly 100 people said they visited the emergency room for treatment – a number the hospital “would like to see come down a bit,” DeHart said. “While we love our emergency room ‘being busy, we don’t want people to be using the emergency room for primary care,” she said.
