Richmond News and Excelsior Springs Standard reporter Miranda Jamison presented a newspaper interview guide at Hawthorne Elementary of Kearney last week. The elementary school hosts an after-school newspaper club comprised of third through fifth-grade students who meet weekly. Elementary teacher Chelsea Miller — who, along with staffer Katy Foster started the club in September 2023 — reached out to Jamison about the presentation and she happily complied with the request.“Katy and I worked over the summer to plan and develop our vision for the newspaper, but the 13 news students have really helped us develop the group and our newspaper into what it has become. We plan to go until the end of April. We meet weekly for about an hour to work on each month’s newspaper,” said Miller. “The club members are working on doing interviews, so they asked if we would guide them on how to conduct an interview and give tips,” said Jamison.
