EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Lane of Lights tradition continues with a distinct claim to fame.
While doing last-minute, opening day work on the lights, Clint Hylton says he believes Excelsior Springs has the longest Christmas lights tunnel in the metro area.
“Our tunnel is 240 feet long,” he says.
Hylton is right, based on information from Skylar O’Dell, with Kansas City Winter Magic. O’Dell says that group’s computer-programmed, animated lights tunnel is 200 feet long. The length falls 40 feet shorter than the Excelsior Springs tunnel and the entry fee there, $20, is $15 higher.
The need to social distance to combat COVID-19 has changed or deleted some Christmas activities for Excelsior Springs, including Breakfast with Santa and the Holiday Homes Tour. But the drive through Lane of Light is not one of them, Excelsior Springs Christmas Committee member Jessica Miller says on opening night.
