Late payments attract Housing Authority action

Housing Authority Executive Director Carrie Hiltner recently informed board members of tenants falling behind in their monthly payments and discussed a plan of action moving forward. Hiltner noted that the Housing Authority has four accounts receivable and said they are on the rise again after a downward trend. “Now we are seeing this skyrocket, and individuals are not paying rent,” she said. “It is challenging in our line of work to understand why tenants are not paying rent since we adjust to any income changes people may have.” She explained that if people are not paying rent, they are simply not planning on doing so, and they have to be tracked down to have tenants placed on a repayment agreement. According to www.hud.gov, a repayment agreement must be in writing, dated and signed by both the tenant and the Housing Authority, including the total amount owed, lump sum payment information, and the monthly repayment amount.
