Leaders ‘press pause’ on pit bull repeal

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – City leaders want to refine Excelsior Springs’ rules governing dangerous dogs before possibly repealing a decades-old pit bull ban. An ordinance repealing the ban was on the agenda for Monday night’s City Council meeting at the Hall of Waters. But during an April 1 work session, leaders agreed to pull the item. Councilman Stephen Spear recommended the city “press pause” on passing the pit bull repeal until “we’re comfortable with” an expanded dangerous dog ordinance. Spear based his recommendation on views expressed during a livestreamed forum at the Community Center about the pit bull ban and dangerous dog regulations. City Manager Molly McGovern – who moderated the “listening post” – agreed.
