Local chalk artist receives proclamation at city council

Declaring Sept. 20 “Robbie Farabee Sidewalk Chalk Day” was one of several items of business handled recently during an Excelsior Springs City Council meeting. Local chalk artist, Robbie Farabee, was honored with the proclamation. A longtime Excelsior Springs resident, Farabee began his artist journey in middle school when he showed interest in sketching. After becoming a resident of the downtown Excelsior Springs area, he found chalk lying outside Blu Box Boutique and inspiration struck as he started sketching in the doorway. Since then, he became a wellknown resident, expanding his artwork throughout the city and even into neighboring towns such as Richmond. Excelsior Springs Mayor Mark Spohn said Stephen Spear, mayor pro-tem, approached him and passed along the idea to honor Farabee for his chalk art contributions to the city.
