The Excelsior Springs Church of the Nazarene held a free Warm Up Inside and Out soup lunch and winter clothing item event at the Good Samaritan Center for those in the community searching for warmth ahead of the winter season. According to the Excelsior Springs Nazarene Church’s Pastor Rex Mc-Common, this was the third year they hosted the event. He said, “We host the event once a year when it starts to get cold with a primary focus on warm clothes.” Everyone who attended the event could donate used winter clothing, have a meal or select clothing free of charge, ranging from coats and jackets to shirts and pants. McCommon explained all of the apparel and items left over from the event would be brought to Job Corps for students who need warm clothing. Shirley Knipker, a church member, added that even community members have helped with the event, saying it has been overwhelming with all the support they received.
