Local resident receives award for restoration

The Excelsior Springs Historical Preservation Commission recently presented local homeowner Ron Prewitt with the Historic Preservation Award. Located at 522 Elms Blvd., Prewitt renovated and restored the 110-year-old home he purchased as investment property in 2022. Although several residents told the new owner the house was not worth the effort to renovate and restore, and therefore should be torn down, that didn’t deter him. “When I purchased the house, it was in bad shape; vines were growing in the windows,” said Prewitt. With help from two other Excelsior Springs locals, Ed Emery and Arlo Rosenboom, Prewitt decided to move forward, keeping the home, built in 1913, as close to its original design as possible. “These guys did it all and worked hard,” said Prewitt, noting the men worked without air conditioning through the summer to complete the job.
