An Excelsior Springs woman has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action after a man was found dead inside a home on Aug. 4.

According to the Excelsior Springs Police Department, the victim has been identified as Mitchell Troy Dickey, 65, and the suspect as Malinda Francis Dickey, 67.

As of press time, Malinda Dickey is in custody and being held on a $1 million bond.

Police responded at approximately 9:21 a.m. Aug. 4 after receiving a 911 call reporting a dead body at a residence in the 400 block of North Kimball Avenue. Officers located Mitchell deceased inside the home.

Preliminary findings indicated the death was not the result of natural causes and investigators began treating the case as a homicide. Malinda was located at the scene and taken into custody.

Clay County Prosecutor Zachary Thompson announced the charges the following day.
