McGovern gives update on cemetery regs, city COVID data

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – New regulations for the two city cemeteries, Crown Hill and Hillcrest, are in effect, City Manager Molly McGovern told city leaders during a March 12 work session. In November, the City Council approved the initial reading of an ordinance revising some regulations for both cemeteries. The council approved the ordinance’s final reading in December. Changes include limits on the size and length of time decorations may be placed on graves. There are new signs stating the changes to the regulations at both cemeteries, McGovern said; however, she added “people may not be noticing them” because of similarities to the previous ones, as Public Works Director Chad Birdsong pointed out to her. “We’re going to try and … call more attention to them,” she said. The city hopes the changes will limit the number of hindrances cemetery mowers face, McGovern said.
