Mold prevention, control tips shared
Safety and compliance in all construction and building-related activities is held to high standards in Excelsior Springs, including mold prevention and control.
The city recently adopted the International Code Council’s (ICC) building codes, and to keep its residents informed, has made educational material available.
“Our approach has been to offer guidance based on the ICC building codes,” Excelsior Springs Economic Development Director, Melinda Mehaffy, said. “Our department often receives inquiries about mold issues and the city does not provide testing due to certification restraints.”
The information the city has provided citizens includes ten tips for those wanting to prevent and control a mold issue, including:
• Fix leaky plumbing and leaks in buildings and homes as soon as possible.
• Watch for condensation and water stains in a building or home.
• Prevent moisture caused by condensation by increasing surface temperature or reducing humidity in the air.
