New sheriff denied funds, slams board

RICHMOND – By cussing at the elected 911 Dispatch Board, demanding the removal of Director Kim Davis and declaring an overall lack of faith in the board, former Clay County detective Scott Childers, now Ray County’s sheriff, made an impression during his first month in office. “It pretty much was a blowup on his part,” Ray County 911 Board President Paul Harris said. Davis said Saturday she has no idea why Childers sought her resignation. He had complained about items she posted on Facebook. “He basically said he didn’t trust anyone on the board, that we were all hand-picked by Garry Bush, the (former) sheriff and, well, that’s not true because every one of us ran and was elected by the voters of the county. We are an elected board, not an appointed board,” Harris said. “They are elected by the people, just like (county) commissioners are – the same districts,” Davis said.
