New Year brings new goals for community leaders

With the New Year days away, leaders in the community share future goals and resolutions for Excelsior Springs in 2024. The first resolutions were made nearly 4,000 years ago when the ancient Babylonians walked the earth. They were also the first recorded people to celebrate the holiday during a religious festival known as Akitu, according to history.com. During the festival, a new king would reaffirm loyalty to the reigning king, or a new king would be crowned, and new promises were made to the gods. Some resolutions also allowed people to pay debts and return objects borrowed from others. After making their resolutions, the Babylonians believed if they kept their word, the gods would bring them good fortune and favor for the next year bestowed upon them.
