NTRC Horses heal, promote growth
Equine therapy utilizes a connection between people and horses to increase physical and emotional healing.
The Northland Therapeutic Riding Center (NTRC), located in Holt, MO, is a non-profit organization helping children ages 4 and over with special needs. The center uses equine assisted therapies and activities to aid in personal growth and healing.
NTRC’s PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor Amy O’Neal explained equine therapy is unique. The student student or rider has the opportunity to learn cooperation, patience, listening, empathy and language skills while connecting with horses and other individuals in a safe environment.
“In this industry, I have seen someone speak their first words and improve mobility,” said O’Neal.
Shaney Othic, executive director of NTRC, explained the importance of the program, mentioning it offers an alternative approach to traditional therapies.
