July Fourth, the celebration of the passage of the Declaration of Independence and the birth of American independence, is just around the corner. The holiday is typically celebrated with festivities ranging from family gatherings and barbecues to parades and fireworks. Excelsior Springs has an ordinance in place ensuring its residents’ public health, safety and welfare pertaining to the sale and use of fireworks this Fourth of July. According to the town ordinance, no one within city limits can discharge bottle rockets or sky lanterns. The only fireworks allowed to be ignited and discharged must be a class C common firework, items classified as class C fireworks include consumer fireworks in tended for use by the public. It is also considered unlawful for any person to use, ignite, or discharge fireworks within any part of the city should the Excelsior Springs Fire Department (ESFD) determine open burning should be prohibited due to atmospheric conditions or local situations. …
