The Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation Board met Tuesday evening to discuss new healthy lung signs that will soon be installed in city parks.
Nate Williams, director of Parks and Recreation, brought an ordinance before the City Council in their last meeting that would restrict smoking and the use of vaping devices in youth activity areas in the city’s parks.
Williams said the SAFE organization agreed to pay for the signage that will be posted.
Williams said he also acquired a sandwich board to be placed at sites that cannot house permanent signage.
The board will be used during youth activities at those locations.
The ordinance allows for those found to be in violation to be guilty of an ordinance violation, punishable by:
1) A fine not exceeding $100.00 for a first violation.
2) A fine not exceeding $200.00 for a second violation within a one-year
3) A fine not exceeding $500.00 for a third or subsequent violations within a one-year period.
This Ordinance will be in full force 30 days after its March 18 passage.
